ALL-MAGNETIC SHIFT REGISTER SCHEME STUDIES,

Abstract

A method of cataloging and synthesizing all-magnetic shift register circuits is described and demonstrated. The cataloging procedure provides a consistent organization of known schemes, and the synthesis process generates all possible shift register schemes in a given category. 'Scheme' as used here relates to the sequence of switching of the various elements of a particular configuration to accomplish shifting in a register. The term is defined more completely in the report. The synthesis process was applied to three different configurations of magnetic toroids and wire coupling loops. It was applied only to the three-clock-phase schemes in these configurations. Two new schemes were synthesized in addition to two that were already known. Application of this synthesis technique to more complicated configurations should result in more interesting and more practical circuits. (Author)
