SURVEY OF TECHNICAL INFORMATION ON TOWED HIGH SPEED SURFACE VEHICLES.

Abstract

This report covers a survey of technical infor mation relating to the design of a hydrofoil craft for high-speed towing by helicopters. This survey is divided into four parts, covered in Sections 2-5 of this report, dealing with the following principal subjects: (2) Problems associated with the towing of surface and sub surface devices. (i.e., planing devices and hydrofoils). (3), (4) Hydrodynamic raaracteris tics of existing model and full-scale hydrofoil configurations (for self-propelled vehicles). (5) Helicopter towing techniques and equipment. Sections 2, 3 and 4, based largely on literature survey, cover many fundatnntal principles and also summarize information on basic parameters and qualities of existing hydrofoil vehicles. Secnoon 5, based largely on this contractor's experience, provides significant information on existing (experimental)NG EQUIPMENT AND TECHNIQUES AS WELL AS A NUMBER OF DESIGN CRITERIA FOR TOW CABLES.
