PREDICTION OF OFFICER JOB RANKINGS FROM RATINGS ONETS OF JOB EVALUATION FACTORS,

Abstract

Rank orderings of 144 officer job descriptions made on the basis of merited pay in one case and merited grade in the other were used as criteria to validate 2 sets of job requirement factors, using a multiple regression technique. An ex perimental set of 10 factors predicted both criteria better than the set of 10 factors cur rently used by the Air Force in job evaluation. A variable which reflected the organizational level of the job increased predictive efficiency. Both sets of factors were more predictive of pay rank than of grade rank. It was suggested that some combination of both sets of factors might prove better than either one. (Author)
