CONSIDERATIONS IN THE DESIGN OF AUTOMATIC PROFICIENCY MEASUREMENT EQUIPMENT IN SIMULATORS.
Abstract
The purpose of scores and their development and current Air Force Aircrew proficiency evaluation techniques are described as background for a discussion of the potential use of automatic scoring equipment in conducting proficiency evaluations in flight simulators. A hypothetical automatic scoring system is considered in light of existing programs to show the advantages and disadvantages of the concept. Specific sug gestions regarding the design and use of such a system are given. Automatic scoring in ground training systems may provide a means of con ducting thorough proficiency evaluations, yield ing scores which can be obtained more reliably, more accurately, more economically and in less time than current inflight sujective evaluation methods. In this way automatic scoring could satisfy a definite need for future proficiency evaluations of advanced aircraft and space vehicle crew members, which cannot be satisfied by present scoring systems.
