A STUDY OF THE FACTORS AFFECTING THE DECOMPOSI TION OF THE INTERMEDIATE PHASE GAMMA Ti3Al,

Abstract

In order to study the factors effecting the decomposition of the intermediate phase gamma Ti3Al tentative partial isothermal sections at 1000, 850, 700 and 600 C were determined. The effect of certain Beta stabilizers on the de composition rates was also studied. Uncertain ties in the binary Ti-Al system in the range of 7-15% Al are now being studied. Following com pletion of the phase diagram work, three se lected 8 pound ingots will be melted, curves determined and mechanical properties evaluated. (Author)
