RESEARCH INVESTIGATIONS LEADING TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF A CADMIUM - SILVER OXIDE BATTERY HAVING A HERMETICALLY SEALED CONSTRUCTION.

Abstract

Development work is being directed toward the attainment of a reliable, sealed cadmium - silver oxide battery. A schedule of work and work done during this quarter are discussed. Improvements in methods of insulation, environmental testing, and hermetic seal were areas of concentrated work during the first quarter. Data obtained reveal that a temperature rise of 40 F from a base temperature of 80 F would decrease the expected cycle life of a battery operating at the cadmium - monovalent silver oxide capacity level by 66%. Conversely, lower ing the temperature 60 F would increase the expected cycle life by more than 200%. (Author)
