STRESS ANALYSIS OF SHIP-SUSPENDED HEAVILY LOADED CABLES FOR DEEP UNDERWATER EMPLACEMENTS.

Abstract

This report discusses the operational aspect of lowering heavy array structures to the bottom of the deep oceans. The study is limited to the case of a single cable lowering the array vertically. Drag of the cable and array, the effect of currents, and cable material are con sidered. Results of the study are presented in plot form involving a nondimensional maximum (dynamic) stress versus a nondimensional fre quency for various mass and drag parameters. Examples of applications are also included. (Author)
