AN EVALUATION OF A GUN CAMERA AS AN AID IN TANK GUNNERY TRAINING,

Abstract

Under the present Army training program, combat ready tank crews in Germany are afforded the opportunity to fire their weapons only once a year. Since there is every indication that this condition will continue, it is evident that the development of a gun-camera system to be used as a year-round training device would be a worthwhile addition to the training program. Although the use of such a system obviously cannot replace actual firing, it can provide a continuous method of obtaining valuable training by tank-crew members, as well as data on accuracy of gun lay and response times involved in the firing sequence. In addition a device that could supplement the tank training program by improving the level of combat readiness attained per mile of use could also minimize the depletion of the tank resource.
