VIBRATIONAL FREQUENCIES AND ELECTRONEGATIVITIES,

Abstract

Relations are found for the methylene deforma tion frequencies in CH2XY molecules and the electronegativity product chi(X)chi(Y). These correlations are used (1) to predict 'group' electronegativities for CN, O.CH3, S.CH3, CO.Cl, CO.Br, and CO.NH2; and (2) to predict CH2 fre quencies in X.CH2.CN (X F, Cl, Br, I) molecules.
