FIBER-REINFORCED METALS AND ALLOYS.
Abstract
This report describes attempts to produce high strength, low-weight fiber composites from beryllium fibers and aluminum matrix materials. The principles of fiber metallurgy strengthening are outlined, and the difficulties encountered in the Al-Be fiber system are described and dis cussed. It is concluded that the presently available beryllium fibers are unsuitable for fiber reinforcement purposes. (Author)
