THE USE OF RADAR FOR MONITORING INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENTS ON MISSILE AND SPACE FLIGHTS,

Abstract

A preliminary guide to the use of radar tech niques in connection with the inspection of arms-control agreements relating to long-range ballistic missiles, earth sa lites and space vehicles is presented. Following a brief in troduction, Part 2 discusses the kinds of information that can and cannot be obtained with radar, and provides some indications of evasion possibilities. Part 3 includes a partial survey of contemporary radar technology and capabilities, and rough indications of costs. Part 4 provides very rough guides to system considerations appropriate to three specimen types of agreements: pre-launch registration measures, control of weapons in orbit or outer space, and prohibition of tests of nuclear weapons in space.
