RESEARCH ON AMMONIA BATTERY SYSTEM.
Abstract
Considerable progress has been made in cell design which has permitted approximately 50% increase in energy density of multicell units. Multicell test methods have been improved result ing in development of definitive information concerning intercell current leakage, activation mechanisms, and general battery design problems. Screening tests have revealed no new cathode materials of any significance for the ammonia system. An improved separator has been found for low-rate, long-duration application. General battery pence, both at high and low ambient temperatures, has been improved. Maximum energy delivery has been 5.6 watt-hours per pound and the minimum activation time to 80% peak load voltage was 0.45 second which denotes the capability of the system. (Author)
