PHOTOIONIZATION AND PHOTOIONIZATION-INDUCED ION MOLECULE REACTIONS.

Abstract

The use of vacuum ultraviolet radiation as a diagnostic tol for obtaining information about molecular energy levels was demonstrated. Fluor escent radiation from the excited states of several gaseous ions was observed, and prelimin ary results are presented showing the intensity of the fluorescent radiation as a function of photon energy and gas pressure. Variations in the fluorescent decay time observed in certain gases, as a function of gas pressure, are also presented. (Author)
