ALTERATIONS OF RAT TISSUE CYTOCHROME C LEVELS BY A CHRONIC COLD EXPOSURE,
Abstract
The levels of cytochrome c were measured in various tissues from rats that had been exposed to cold (5 degrees C) for 1 to 20 weeks. At the end of four weeks of cold exposure the cytochrome c levels of the heart, kidney, liver, lung, skeletal muscle and the spleen were increased by 43.7, 29.4, 131.6, 61.8, 140.6 and 61.2 per cent, respectively, over the control animals maintained at an ambient temperature of 25 degrees C. Thereafter, the levels remained increased throughout the whole 5 month experimental period. (Author)
