STRESSES AND DEFORMATIONS UNDER OBLIQUE LOADS,

Abstract

This study is concerned with the application of the elastic theory to soils. The stress and displacement functions were derived for the conditions that result when a finite length of load acts on the boundary of a semi-infinite soil mass. The study is based on the Theory of Elasticity, and the law of superposition is applied in the establishment of the analytical equations. Furthermore the experiment performed indicates the limitations of the elastic theory applied for the solution of such problems in the mechanics of soils. (Author)
