FUEL CELL CATALYSTS.

Abstract

Catalysts were investigated for use in fuel cells employing liquid organic fuels to accomplish complete oxidation of the fuel under rejection of carbon dioxide formed. Single precious metals in finely divided form as blacks or deposited on carbon carriers have been one group of catalytically active material investigated for the anodic reaction. In addition, a comprehensive study was undertaken involving alloys of precious metals with each other or with certain base metals. Most work was carried out in dilute sulfuric acid using representative fuels such as methanol. Some work was carried out with other oxygenated fuels and with certain hydrocarbons. (Author)
