TETHERED VERTICAL LIFT DEVICE.

Abstract

A simplified stability and control system for an electrically powered tethered flying platform, incorporating a new and novel method of tethering, is presented as part of an engineering investigation conducted on such a device for sustaining radar reflecting targets at altitude under a wide range of wind velocities. Analysis and flying model tests are utilized to derive and substantiate the performance and design features of the device. A preliminary design is presented for a tethered flying platform which fulfills the mission requirements for carrying radar targets. (Author)
