EMERGING ANIMAL DISEASES,

Abstract

Blue tongue, African horse-sickness, African swine fever, lumpy skin disease, and Rift Valley fever are examples of a group of contagious diseases of food-producing livestock which has caused tragic losses; they remain uncontrolled and continue to spread. Not only are they a handicap to the supply and distrubution of food in much of the world, but their presence anywhere is an existing threat to livestock and the food supply in those countries now free of them.
