VIDEO DETECTOR DIODES FOR COUNTERMEASURES EQUIPMENT.

Abstract

Effort were directed towards the theory of the threshold detection sensitivity of diffused junction, high power, video detectors. In addition, experimental data was obtained to permit preliminary evaluation of this theory. A theoretical study of the minimum detectable power (Pst) has led to the development of an expression relating significant diode parameters (Rb, Cb and rs) to the detector sensitivity, with respect to high frequency operation. The approach employed was independent of that which led to the original AEL-developed expression for Pst thus providing a valuable tool for the re-evaluation of the original theory. In addition, the equivalent circuit of the junction diode has been investigated from the viewpoint of determining the variation of diode parameters (Rb, Cb, rs) with respect to frequency. This study will permit the investigation, both theoretical and experimental, of the relationships between diode parameters, semiconductor characteristics power-handling capability and, in conjunction with the expression for Pst, the detector sensitivity. These studies have been correlated with preliminary experimental data concerning the diode parameters, to determine their effect on Pst. (Author)
