THE DEVELOPMENT OF A ONE-KILOWATT TACAN TRANSMITTER.

Abstract

Research concerned the development of a breadboard model of a one-kilowatt TACAN transmitter. Techniques were employed which make this transmitter smaller, lighter, and more efficient than comparable TACAN transmitters. The system incorporates spectrum control by means of envelope comparison with a stable reference in a high gain feedback loop. Integrated ratios of the centerband to side-band spectrum energy of 60 and 62 db were obtained. A broadband frequency multiplier was developed which simplifies the procedure for changing from one operating channel to another. The RF power output is obtained from a chain of pulsed coaxial cavity amplifiers using a small coaxial tetrode. The modulation and video circuits are of semiconductor design. (Author)
