RESEARCH ON TECHNIQUES FOR LIGHT MODULATION DETECTION.

Abstract

Scientific research is presented on an applied research program to establish techniques for light modulation detection. A background literature investigation showed that two different methods showed promise for obtaining the desired results. These methods were (1) the transversewave phototube; and (2) the birefringent discriminator. The merits and performance of these two schemes are discussed on the basis of the background information plus additional analyses. These schemes are found to be approximately equal in terms of performance, but differing considerably in complexity of construction. It is concluded that the aims of the program can be best served by pursuing an investigation of the birefringent discriminator. (Author)
