SIX YEAR INDOOR AND OUTDOOR AGING OF ELASTOMERIC VULCANIZATES,

Abstract

SBR, NR and NBR vulcanizates employing sulfuraccelerator, accelerator only and peroxide curing systems were aged indoors and outdoors for a period of six years. Properties were determined at intervals of six months. one, two, four and six years. The value of including an antioxidant to improve aging was found to vary with the type of curing system. The nature of the curing system had a decided effect on aging, especially outdoors. In most cases, the vulcanizates aged more outdoors than indoors. In a few instances they resisted aging as well outdoors as indoors. (Author)
