HIGH PERVEANCE GUN STUDY.

Abstract

This is the eighth quarterly report on the study of the formation of stable, well-focused, high perveance, large diameter hollow beams generated from magnetron injection and electrostatic guns. Results of probing the hollow beam with a pinhole beam tester are reported. All measurements were of the pulsed type in order to keep the power dissipation low. Noise in the beam was measured by means of the input cavity of an experimental L-band klystron. Besides thermal white noise, large spikes of noise at discrete frequencies were observed. The frequency of these spikes depends on the magnetic field and to some degree on the beam current. (Author)
