LABORATORY EVALUATION OF TRANSISTORIZED AUDIO AMPLIFIERS.

Abstract

Laboratory tests were conducted to evaluate two types of transistorized audio amplifiers. One of the transistorized amplifiers evaluated was a regulated output, four channel amplifier and the other was a general purpose, six channel amplifier. Tests included complete performance characteristics of the two transistorized amplifiers. Salient characteristics of a regulated output, electron tube amplifier type FA-5238 and a dual channel, electron tube amplifier type CA-1785 were also determined for comparison purposes. Test results are presented and are analyzed to determine the suitability of the transistorized amplifiers as replacement equipment for electron tube amplifiers now in use. It was concluded that the transistorized amplifiers provide a substantial reduction in size, weight, and power consumption as compared to the electron tube type amplifiers. The performance characteristics of the transistorized amplifiers, in general, compare favorably with the characteristics of the electron tube amplifiers. It was recommended that the ttansistorized amplifiers be considered suitable as replacement equipment for the electron tube amplifiers. (Author)
