ADHESIVE BONDING OF END CLOSURES FOR HIGH STRENGTH AND RELIABILITY IN IN ROCKET MOTOR CASES.

Abstract

Preliminary studies of bonded joint fabrication technique were conducted with 26 uniaxial lap and scarf joint specimens and 17 sub-scale test cases of 5 in. nominal diameter and 18 in. length. Fifteen of the sub-scale units exceeded the target bonded joint strength of 3750 psi by an average of 40%. The information gained from these preliminary tests was applied to the fabrication of 16 prototype bonded end closure cases of 16 in. nominal diameter and 41 in. length. (Author)
