SYNTHESIS OF ELASTOMERS CONTAINING SI-N BONDS IN THE MAIN CHAIN.

Abstract

Two potential crosslinking reactions for polymens obtained by the condensation of silazanes with organic diols were examined in model systems. It was shown that the use of isocyanates with silazanes gave a disproportionation reaction that would result in chain scission in polymeric systems. Similar studies with olefinicallysubstituted silazanes showed that vinylsilazanes can be polymerized with di-t-butyl peroxide, bul that allylsilazanes were unaffected by the same catalyst. Variation in monomers and polymerization conditions has failed to give polymers with higher molecular weights or greater degrees of hydrolytic stability than the polymers reported in earlier reports.
