A CROSSED GRID DISPLAY ELEMENT UTILIZING NON-LINEAR RESISTIVE, PHOTOCONDUCTIVE, AND ELECTROLUMINESCENT LAYERS,

Abstract

The operating characteristics of a display element containing non-linear resistive, photoconductive, and electroluminescent components were investigated. A number of slall EL cells, PCs, and a NLR (simulated with a neon lamp-resistor circuit) were used to observe the characteristics of series combinations of NLR-EL-PC components with light feedback from the EL to the PC. Addition of the NLR to the EL-PC element increased the turn on and turn off voltages of the bistable characteristic. This allows the element to be operated at higher brightness levels, while reducing the possibility of accidental triggering. (Author)
