ANALYTICAL STUDY OF A HYDRODYNAMIC SYSTEM FOR STRAINING MECHANICAL TEST SPECIMENS,

Abstract

Analytical equations relating specimen deformation to time are developed for a hydraulic system that is capable of subjecting mechanical test specimens to dynamic loading. By utilizing appropriate equations, the theoretical capabilities of a practical hydrodynamic test system are predicted. The relation of the transfer valve and the need to minimize its deleterious throttling effect are emphasized. A discussion relating to the design and merits of a similar system is also presented.
