CREEP CHARACTERISTICS OF 5B5000 AND 5M10,000 MOUNTINGS.

Abstract

As a part of the program for developing a 5M10,000 mounting the creep characteristics of this mounting have been measured. A creep test was started on 2 July 1959 with the mounting supporting a static load of 10,550 pounds. The creep of this mounting over a period of 4 years in shown graphically. The mounting behaved like a huge thermometer by changing in height as the temperature varied. Graphs indicate that creep was approximately proportional to the logarithm of time. On the basis of this it appears that the total creep after 10 years under static loading would be not more than 3/32 inch. The initial resonant frequency of the load and mounting system was 4.7 cps. After four years, the resonant frequency was 4.8 cps. Concurrent with the creep test on the 5M10,000 mounting, although not started at the same time, creep tests were also conducted on two 5B5000. One of the mountings supported a static load of 3200 pounds while the other mounting supported a static load of 5000 pounds. (Author)
