GAMMA RADIATION EFFECTS ON ISOPRENOIDS,

Abstract

Squalene, a liquid hexamer having the fundamental isoprenoid molecular structure of natural rubber, was irradiated with cobalt-60 gamma rays. The squalene was radiolyzed in vacuum and the dose absorption varied from 0.13 to 2.1 megarad. Gas chromatographic product analysis showed that hydrogen and methane are produced in the greatest amounts. (Author)
