STATIC AND DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF A PLAYA SILT IN ONE-DIMENSIONAL COMPRESSION.

Abstract

One-dimensional static compression tests, dynamic and rapid limited radial strain compression tests, and unconsolidated-undrained triaxial tests were performed on specimens from the Frenchman Flat playa. The static axial stressstrain properties and the radial stresses concomitant with the conditions of zero radial strain are presented for a maximum axial stress of 5,480 psi. The rapid and dynamic axial stress-strain properties and the radial stresses concomitant with limited lateral strains are presented for maximum axial stresses varying from 3,900 psi to 20,300 psi. Stress-strain relationships and shear strength parameters are presented for the triaxial tests for a maximum stress difference of 380 psi. (Author)
