PRINTED CIRCUIT CONNECTORS FOR MICROASSEMBLIES.

Abstract

Task A - 20 contact microassembly receptacle. Design effort was concentrated on a total of six different contact approaches to mate with 0.016 to 0.020 inch diameter microassembly pins. All six of the contact designs were fabricated (hand-made) and tested with regard to their retention characteristics. Three of the six contact designs wereselected for further analysis. A twenty contact insulator body for each of the three selected contact designs has been designed and fabricated. Task B - encapsulated microassembly connector. Seven connector design approaches for the 36 and 80 conductor encapsulated microassemblies were made during this period. These designs were studied analytically, and hand-made contacts for use in the connectors of the most promising designs were fabricated and tested. Three of the seven designs have been selected for further analysis. (Author)
