DISPERSION STRENGTHENED NICKEL-BASE ALLOYS.

Abstract

A group of Nichrome-thoria alloys prepared by the thermal decomposition of thorium nitrate onto alloy powder indicated improved room temperature and equivalent high temperature tensile properties relative to the base composition. However, in the case of a modified Udimet 500 composition, the thoria-containing alloy showed lower properties than the base composition. In order to increase the amount of stored energy of deformation in the thoria-containing alloys, two alloys indicating a good degree of dispersion and moderate room temperature ductility were cold swaged 81 percent in reduction of area. These swaged alloys are presently being evaluated. (Author)
