OBJECTIVE ANALYSIS AND FORECASTING OF TOTAL CLOUD AMOUNTS.

Abstract

On the basis of diurnal observations at 1200 GMT of the period 1956-60, 14 stations of Central and Eastern Europe were investigated as to which classes of the parameters pressure, geopotential and thickness of the 500-mb level, characteristic systems of the surface and upperair chart, direction of geostrophic wind of the surface chart and of upper wind at 500-mb show the highest expectancy for fair weather after one to five days. It was found that in the warm season stationary warm high pressure areas and in the cold season stationary cold high pressure areas have the largest persistency for fair weather. The results for simultaneous relations of total cloud amount to 13 synoptically defined parameters are published. (Author)
