DEVELOPMENT OF LOW NOISE TRAVELING-WAVE TUBES.

Abstract

One tube in L-band was shipped to satisfy particular Navy tube requirements. Another tube in C-band was removed from its place in the testing plan and tested for shipment, as requested by BuShips. One S-band tube passed preliminary electrical and environmental tests and if shipped this tube would satisfy the final delivery requirement for this type. S-band tubes continue to be built, however, so that the life-test program may be completed. An X-band tube that had completed more than 1,000 hours of life-testing was experimentally vibrated under increasingly severe conditions unto destruction. This tube withstood vibrations far beyond specification requirements and gave a good account of itself before a heater weld finally opened. A second X-band tube passed 850 hours on life-test without incident. (Author)
