A METHOD FOR PREDICTING THE TEMPERATURE-TIME HISTORY OF AN OBJECT ENGULFED BY AN AIRCRAFT-FUEL FIRE,

Abstract

An analytical method is presented for predicting the temperature-time history of an effectively infinite solid cylinden engulfed by a large, open aircraft-fuel fire. Essentially, the method consists of the solution of the Fourier head conduction equation for two different modes of heat transfer to the surface of the cylinder. When the fire temperature and the variations in it are known, the a priori prediction by use of the analytical method can be accurate to within 25 centigrade degrees. (Author)
