W2SD-21. STRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT TEST CASE P616Y.01. WEAPON SYSTEM 133A.

Abstract

Structural development test W2SD-21, case P616Y.01, was conducted to determine the structural integrity of the Wing II M-57E1 motor case. To accomplish this, the case was subjected to the combined loading conditions of axial load, shear load, and bending moment conducted under room temperature conditions. The loads at failure of case P616Y.01 were an axial load of 82.6 kips, a shear load of 7.5 kips, and a bending moment of 733.8 in.-kips. Test results show that the equivalent axial load was 160.9 kips. The values of Poisson's ratio and the modulus of elasticity showed wide variations. Values of Poisson's ratio varied from 0.03 to 0.60, and the variation for the modulus of elasticity was 1.0 x 10 to the 6th power to 8 x 10 to the 6th power psi. It was concluded that the Wing II design case is capable of meeting and exceeding present design requirements. (Author)
