CRUISE OF THE ESMERALDA 6 JULY - 20 AUGUST 1962. PRELIMINARY REPORT: TEMPERATURE, SALINITY AND PRIMARY PRODUCTION.

Abstract

Data were collected during part of the 1962 cruise of the Chilean Navy training ship Esmeralda. The Esmeralda sailed from San Francisco on July 6 and arrived at Easter Island August 1; after a three-day stop she sailed on to Valparaiso, arriving August 20. Temperature was measured by bathythermograph, samples of surface water were obtained for the determination of salinity and pigment concentrations, and measurements of the productivity of surface phytoplankton were made.
