VELOCITIES OF ELECTRICALLY EXCITED SHOCK WAVES IN SMALL TUBES FILLED WITH DEUTERIUM GAS AT LOW PRESSURES,

Abstract

A device for producing high temperatures has been under test by the Physical Research Laboratory which requires a source of high temperature ionized plasma of known characteristics. Plasmas produced by electrically excited shocks have been investigated for this particular application. A knowledge of shock velocities in tubes of size comparable to those used in the high temperature device is requisite to the calculation of temperature and electrical conductivity of the plasma.
