STUDY OF SONOTONE CORPORTATION NICKEL CADMIUM SIZE F BATTERY CELLS.

Abstract

The tests were conducted by Space Technology Laboratories, Inc.. Final conclusions are not submitted: however, limited conclusions are drawn as a result of test accomplishments to date. Objectives of the laboratory investigations and studies which involve only Sonotone F cells were: (1) To subject cells to the various environmental conditions and duty cycles experienced in the Pioneer V vehicle and to duplicate in the laboratory the type of performance degradation observed in the Pioneer V batteries. (2) To establish proper cell selection techniques. (3) To determine the environmental and operational constraints necessary to obtain reliable performance from Sonotone F cells in space vehicles. (4) To provide information, derived as a result of cell performance degradation or failure studies, which will assist in improving the design and fabrication of presently available cells. (Author)
