SERVICEABILITY TEST OF FRANGIBLE SECTORS FOR MINUTEMAN (LGM-30),

Abstract

Four thrust termination assemblies installed on an LGM-30 Missile were submerged in rain water during a period when the nosecone was not in place. One explosive sector was underwater for over 3 months. These four frangible sections were test fired. Performance of one frangible sector was unserviceable and exceeded the limits due to large fragment size and slow ignition delay. It is recommended that all frangible sectors which have been submerged in liquid be reported to OOAMA (OOYITM). (Author)
