THE LEAST SQUARES PROCEDURE APPLIED TO THE PROBLEM OF ESTIMATING MISSILE POSITION AND ATOMSPHERIC REFRACTIVE INDEX FROM DOVAP RANGE DATA,

Abstract

The general error model is presented and the DOVAP equations are then derived. The observed quantities are assumed to be the changes in loop ranges which are generated by missile motion with respect to a tracking system whose geometry is ellipsoidal. The model provides estimates of missile coordinates corrected for refraction error, the average index of refraction between tracking site elevation and the missile height, and the variances in these quantities.
