CALCULATED NATURAL FREQUENCIES AND NORMAL MODES OF VIBRATION OF THE USS OKINAWA (LPH-3),

Abstract

Normal mode shapes and natural frequencies of vertical, horizontal, and coupled torsionhorizontal vibration were calculated for the hull of the USS Okinawa (LPH-3), an amphibious assault carrier. Parameters used in the calculations with a digital computer are given. The calculated natural frequencies for a heavy displacement for vertical and horizontal vibration are compared with frequencies obtained experimentally. Mode shapes and natural frequencies were also calculated for a light displacement. (Author)
