Abstract

This guide introduces the scientist and engineer to the art of planning and producing an effective technical presentation. It includes some basic information, suggestions for self-improvement in communication skills, and methods of determining the technical level at which a presentation should be pitched. It stresses the necessity of defining the presentation goal, analyzing the audience, and specifying the subject. It discusses in detail numerous presentation techniques and tools such as blackboards, projected slides, overhead projectors, and documentary films; and points out the appropriateness, inappropriateness, and pitfalls of using each one. In orderly procedural steps the technical man is shown how to plan and produce a presentation by himself, and with the advice and assistance of presentation specialists. (Author)
