EFFECTS OF NUCLEAR RADIATION ON FREQUENCY CONTROL DEVICES.

Abstract

The final version of the phase detector for measuring of small transient phase angle changes in quartz crystal units exposed to simulated nuclear weapons environment is described. The present system has a resolution of better than 10:1 compared to the dot system used in previous studies. The final version of the oven temperature remote control system for the precision crystal unit ovens is also described. The stability of the system has been increased by the use of a differential amplifier in the bridge control circuit. A packaged crystal oscillator has been selected for evaluation as part of Task C. The special test fixture for interchangeable mounting of the precision and moderate crystal units as well as for the crystal oscillator units has been constructed. (Author)
