FLOW PROCESSES IN MPD GENERATORS,

Abstract

This preliminary report on flow processes in MPD generators is concerned particularly with the conditions in the first test section of the IRD generator. Thus the flow equations have been solved for a constant area channel with supersonic flow and include the effects of power extraction, heat loss, wall friction and non-constant electrical conductivity. The electrical conductivity depends on the electron density which may be at the thermal equilibrium value, or above it if electron heating occurs. Solutions for both cases are investigated here and the assumptions inherent in the solution of the flow equations are considered. (Author)
