CRITICAL STUDY ON FATIGUE CRACK PROPAGATION,

Abstract

A study is made of the various solutions, based on the theory of elasticity, for the stress field around the tip of a crack, and defines the limit conditions in this connection. Also included is the basic knowledge to date on the elastic-plastic transformation of a material under fatigue, the onset of superficial cracking, and the propagation of the crack considered from the point of view of the physical process involved. Further presented is an analysis of the quantitative aspect of crack propagation. (Author)
