METHODS OF DETERMINING TRANSITION PROBABILITIES AND LEVEL POPULATION DENSITIES BY SELF-ABSORPTION OF RADIATION,

Abstract

Some different variants of the self-absorption method giving the possibility to determine the optical density kappa (O) l in the region of the center of a spectral line have been described. The calculation formula and a table of data are given for: (1) the method of the variance of the absorption length, and (2) the method of one and two mirrors. The precision of the determination of kappa (O) l and for correspondent products of the transition probability by concentration of the atoms (AkiNi and AkiNk) is considered. The influence of the hyperfine structure of a line on the experimental results is found. Some experimental data for the investigated discharge in neon are given. (Author)
