DEVELOPMENT OF S-BAND FERRITE DUPLEXER,

Abstract

Efforts were directed toward the development of an S-band ferrite duplexer being designed for operation at 750 kw of peak power and 750 watts of average power. With this as a goal, an S-band ferrite circulator and limiter combination is considered. The circulator is a four-port, phaseshifting type. The limiter consists of two parallel strip-line waveguides coupled together by two yttrium-iron-garnet (YIG) spheres. Experimental results are presented for power levels up to 550 kw. Typical insertion losses from transmitter-to-antenna and from antenna-to-receiver are 0.4 and 1.5 db, respectively. The successful development of this device will overcome the deficiencies of the limited life capability of the gas-discharge duplexer and the limited powerhandling capability of the semiconductor power limiter.
