STUDIES, INVESTIGATIONS, AND TESTS ON STANDARD AND NONSTANDARD PARTS AND MATERIALS, SUNPROOFING WAXES.

Abstract

Utilizing the data obtained from accelerated and outdoor exposure tests, a test procedure was prepared for screening ozone-protective waxes. Based on this recommended test procedure, a total of 9 of the 16 waxes studied in this program would be acceptable for wire and cable application. Eleven of the 16 waxes studied have be5n approved by the Signal Corps based on a 9-month outdoor exposure test, and 8 of these 11 waxes passed the recommended screening test. One wax which failed the Signal Corps outdoor exposure test passed the recommended screening test. However, this same wax did pass a 9-month outdoor exposure test at Battelle. The time of the year when exposure was started and previous history of Signal Corps specimens prior to testing probably account for much of the lack of correlation with tests at Battelle. (Author)
